Africa is the perfect storm for SugarCRM deployments.
It comes down to price and flexibility of platform deployment.
Price: Community Edition is free. Pro is very inexpensive. Hardware resource requirements are low. Linux operating system is free and SugarCRM doesn't need any other supporting software.
Flexibility: It is a website, basically. So you can deploy On-Demand, in the Cloud, with a Host, or On-site.
Here is the economic snapshot:
1. Poor exchange rates means most other software licenses are expensive because pricing is designed for US and Europe markets.
SugarCRM CE is free. Pro is very affordable.
2. Poor technology and connectivity means the "cell phone is the laptop of Africa".
SugarCRM is web-based and has Mobile UI and Apps. Or you can host it on-site very easily.
3. Poor employment combined with access to knowledge (web) has created an entrepreneurial explosion.
SugarCRM is perfect for tiny businesses.
4. Poor Government Agencies and NGOs cannot fund large systems.
